Former England all rounder Andrew Flintoff is absolutely amazed at the decision of the England and Wales Cricket Board to fine middle order batsman and former skipper Kevin Pietersen because of a tirade on the social networking site Twitter where he criticized former Three Lions opener Nick Knight.
Pietersen had always taken to Twitter to comment on issues that he found irksome and he let people know exactly how he felt when he criticized Nick Knight and raised the question as to how he could become a commentator of Test match cricket on Sky Sports.
The South African born England international was summoned to a disciplinary hearing by the ECB, after which he was asked to pay an undisclosed amount of money as fine. And the former England man Andrew Flintoff also took to the popular social networking site to stand by his friend and former team mate. He went on to add that he doesn’t see any problem in Pietersen criticizing someone who gets paid handsomely by a television channel to criticize the players who represent England in Test cricket and have made the team into the best Test team in the world according to the ICC world rankings.
He also put in a sharp jibe at Knight, a former opener who just player 17 Test matches for England, stating that he had not heard him comment on the day’s play and added that it might have happened that he had been relegated to commenting on village cricket.
England skipper Andrew Strauss has already warned his team mates about the dangers of Twitter earlier in the week but with the latest tirade of the former England man Andrew Flintoff, it seems that this might just become an issue that will drag on for a long time, and this is something that the team could’ve done without.
