The former England all rounder, Andrew Flintoff, has said that he is delighted that the issues between Kevin Pietersen and ECB have almost been resolved. Yesterday, Pietersen met with the authorities of ECB at Colombo and then, later, he apologized for his mistakes in a press conference. After that, there are speculations that Pietersen would be back in the England team pretty soon.
Pietersen is not a part of the test squad that has been selected for the tour of India, but, Flintoff believes that Pietersen should be brought into the squad. Freddie said, “Now, when the issues are resolved, there is no point keeping him out of the team. The England team needs Pietersen for the India tour. He has been there before and he has quite a lot of experience of playing in subcontinent. He can make a lot of difference in India.”
“His presence at no. 4 is so important. He is one of those batsmen who can take the game away from the opposing team in one session. He is a devastating player. I want to see the best England side playing against India and the best England side should have Pietersen in it.”
When asked whether Pietersen’s absence affected England’s performance in the World T20 Championship, Flintoff said, “Pietersen’s presence would have been beneficial, but, the main reason of England’s early exit from the tournament was the poor shot selection of the batsmen. If the pitch is offering turn and bounce to the spinners, you need to play straight bat shots. You just can’t play across the line all the time.”
“I am quite disappointed with the performance of some of the young English batsmen in the World T20 Championship. They played some terrible shots which was frustrating to see.”
